Bug Description

The Official Ubuntu Documentation is proposed for each version of Ubuntu with URLs pointing to these versions. People who want to link pages of this documentation on their websites have to choose which version they want to use and there is no way for them to point always to the last version of the pages (or the documentation).

A simple workaround is to have default URLs always pointing to the last version of the documentation available. Something like :

https://help.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-help/index.htmlhttps://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/ubuntu-help/index.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/serverguide/index.htmlhttps://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/serverguide/index.html

We can also do the same for LTS versions if needed :
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/ubuntu-help/index.htmlhttps://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/ubuntu-help/index.html
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/index.htmlhttps://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/index.html

Simple links on the filesystem can do the work.

This can also be a good start point to rework the design of the first page with big links for the main/last documentations (Ubuntu Guide, Ubuntu Server,… ) and a side text "also available for 12.04LTS, 11.10, …". (but we can open a new bug for that)

Sure, this should be easy. When the web page gets updated tomorrow,

https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/serverguide/ should be the same thing as https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/serverguide/
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/ should be the same thing as https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/

This is similar to what the GNOME documentation does:
http://library.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/stable/
http://library.gnome.org/users/gnome-help/3.6/

Changed in ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Committed
importance: Undecided → Low

Thanks Jeremy.

"Stable" don't really make sense for me because it's more a "developper" word, I preffer the word "current". But stable is also fine, it's just a preference after all ;)
