Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Description for Home User Backup application should be removed from keeping-safe.xml. This package is no longer available in Jaunty universe repesitory and also it is not useful for user (see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hubackup/+bug/320797 for more details).

Patch included to this bug for original keeping-safe.xml file.

Please note also that whole documentation has references to hubackup (see attached entity_hubackup.txt).

Artur,

Thanks for submitting your patch. This won't be changed for Jaunty as it is now too late in the release cycle but will be patched for Karmic.

Patch for ubuntu-doc Karmic. Changes:
- Remove hubackup ENTITY and put new one for sbackup package.
- Short description of Simple Backup Suite (sbackup package).
- Jaunty introduced new behavior of update notification that now launching update-manager directly instead of displaying a notification icon in the GNOME panel (see http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/904#Change%20in%20notifications%20of%20available%20updates)

Please note that this patch was created using bzr bundle command, based on Playbook (http://www.lynxworks.eu/files/BugsPlaybook.pdf) description.

The page https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/keeping-safe/C/backup-files.html is still mentioning hubackup for Jaunty.
Is this included in the changes ?

I suggest using "Déjà Dup" for the backup application. It seems a little more HIG than Simple Backup.

I hope this is not out of order. This is the first time I have tried to report a bug in Ubuntu. Documentation seemed to be the best place to make a contribution as although I am technical I am not a developer. I want to ensure that in the future I am reporting things that are worthwhile so I wonder if someone can take a moment to answer the following?
I am confused by the principal here. How can it be too late to change the documentation for 9.04 when it refers to something in the Universe (that has been removed) and not to something that was specific to that distribution? This particular set of documentation seems to be very important to new users and they are most likely to have a CD from somewhere that could be any particular version of Ubuntu and least likely to do what I did and go digging in the docs for later builds. I would have thought it necessary to maintain any documentation /of this type/ that post dates the latest LTS release at least?

Paul - still on 9.04
