The debian unstable version of python-enable should have this issue already fixed.

Further to previous comment, the debian version 3.2 is of course also available in Lucid.

Question from a n00b: currently I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and used the package manager to install EPD. Good to hear the issue is solved in Debian, but how can I make it work in Ubuntu? I read the workarounds in the duplicate bug report 425957, but fail to see how to implement this.
Many thanks, R

The easy option if you are running Karmic is to manually download the python-enable package from lucid and just install it locally.

Thanks Toby, I found the page with the packageand the 3 files:
 python-enable_3.2.0-1.dsc
python-enable_3.2.0.orig.tar.gz
python-enable_3.2.0-1.diff.gz

I am a bit lost though with the "just install it locally" as it is not simply an .deb/.rpm that opens up in the package manager. What should I do to install these files? Can you please elaborate on that? Or refer to some site where I can read up on this?

Many thanks, Roeland

The same page (http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/python-enable)with those files should also have a link to the .deb file, bottom left corner of the page usually I think. You need to choose which architecture you want.

Sorry that this was not fixed in karmic.
As karmic is not supported anymore and apparently lucid has the fix I am closing this bug.
If it does still affect lucid or newer please reopen the bug.
