Hi,=20
this is serious. This is causing link failures and FTBFSes when libcurl3
(which is linked to libidn11) is used with libidn11 0.4.1-1 as in
testing. We saw this with the OpenOffice.org build when it checks for
the -lcurl availability...
And since this libcurl3* and the openoffice.org will go into testing today
we have a problem in sarge.....
Unfortunately, libidn is frozen. Looks like a need to upload a version with
fixed .shlibs to sid (and testing-
0.5.2-x HAS to go into sarge....)
Cc'ing -release....

The version currently in testing is 0.4.1-1. Is the new upstream
version really needed for fixing this bug?

The shlibs bug doesn't really exist in 0.4.1-1. But libcurl requires
idn_free, which isn't in 0.4.1, it got introduced in 0.5.x. The
problem is that the libcurl dependancy wasn't set properly because of
my mistake with 0.5.2's shlib.
From what Rene says, this is causing OpenOffice build problems too.
So 0.5.2 is required for the idn_free fix that libcurl requires.

Having reviewed the diff between 0.4.1 and 0.5.2, I'm ok with pushing
0.5.2-3 directly into testing.
The versioned shlibs issue doesn't seem to be release-critical in that
case, since there is no version of libidn11 in a stable release that
doesn't contain idn_free.
If you don't want 0.5.2-3 in testing, let me know and we can go the
t-p-u route.

Just FYI:
libcurl _does not_ require idn_free(). It checks for the its presence and if
it is present it uses it.
Therefore, libcurl works fine with libidn 0.4.1.
However, if you build a binary libcurl with a libidn present that _has_ a
idn_free(), you can't simply run it with an older libidn that doesn't have it.
