Bug Description

The build-in microphone of my Acer Aspire 4520 laptop does not record under Natty, though the usual white noise is still audible. I cannot test the on-line input as i haven't got any external mic.

Note that i have double checked all audio levels and input settings ;)

Hmm, it doesn't seem that way - could you please open "alsamixer" and change "Input Source" to "Internal Mic", and turn up the gain of "Internal Mic Boost"?

Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0
  Capabilities: cenum
  Items: 'Mic' 'Internal Mic' 'Line'
  Item0: 'Mic' <------------
Simple mixer control 'Internal Mic Boost',0
  Capabilities: volume penum
Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right
  Limits: 0 - 2
  Front Left: 0 [0%] [0.00dB] <----------------
  Front Right: 0 [0%] [0.00dB] <----------------

Changed in alsa-driver (Ubuntu):

Aha, this is actually a duplicate of bug 771739, which makes it impossible to make the above changes through pulseaudio.
