Bug Description

I don't think that "most recent" is always the best display order on some pages. Most active or some such thing would be much more useful. This is certainly the case on, for example, products pages. Possibly also for bugs on overview pages - most active or most critical would seem more appropriate. I can see that here the recent bugs/support requests could be useful for triage but I think a user coming to the overview would more likely benefit from the common bugs/requests being listed, whereas an admin/developer would have a recent bugs page bookmarked.

Also related: when you go to your personal page overview is always the default page (as opposed to say, bugs assigned/reported). Maybe launchpad should have preference cookies for these issues?

As I understand the design, the list of most recent things (bugs, specifications, etc) on Overview pages is intended to indicate activity in the project, rather than to be useful in itself.

Retaining the application (e.g. "Bugs") as you switch contexts is a separate issue, and one we're implementing gradually.

That is really what I meant - that it is not a good indicator of activity (well, it shows that there is activity as opposed to none, but not where/what the acitvity is). Some random product or bug that has just been added (possibly even spurious) is likely to be of no use. And without wishing to sound too incredulous ;) I would ask why on earth one would desire to have a page that is not "useful in itself". If you feel that showing existence of activity is more useful than a useful interface, fair enough (I don't). But if not, why bother? I'm thinking something more like the "most common bugs" thing that appears when you submit a bug. People coming to products/bugs pages are more likely to be looking for/affected by the most active ones.

We're considering, please note *considering* :-), making bug heat the default sort order. Adding this bug to our work queue for this week's sprint to remind us to re-consider what the default sort order should be.

After discussions with Martin A., we will not change the default sort ordering for all listings, but we will change the bugs overview pages to show real bug heat, which is bug 515232. That change will fix the main point of this bug, that most recent is not a good overview page sort order.
