Completely agreed (I was just thinking about that as well): for 3 of these, we should be able to use standard HTML LINK elements with types "Prev", "Next" and "Start" (see http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/types.html#type-links). We could also try to figure out good "accesskey" values for them.
I'd like to have even more than that but that would require a bit more thinking.
