Right now, the time averages about 2.0s for the "initialize_on_transport_ex" call on the production server. There is probably a little bit of time which includes ping (my ping is currently highly variable, fluctuating from 75ms to 300ms to bazaar.launchpad.net, I'm guessing using wireless across the house isn't helping.)

However, 4s peak and 1.3s minimum aren't because of my local network.
