Is there anyway I could determine what the default settings are once I've hit the "wall" in the live CD?

I fiddled around in that "working" Maverick and rolled back all old kernels:

And it still works just fine, so something that "stuck" from that original toolchain upload and the newer installs/upgrades has absolutely changed.

I'm just stuck and can't really test the new changes to ubiquity until we get past this.
