I run Ubuntu 14.04 and the workaround in #127 seems to have fixed it for me, thanks Ciprian.

The fact that this is still happening on Ubuntu 14.04 is pretty shocking - I know LightDM and Upstart are effectively deprecated in favour of SDDM and systemd in the newer versions, but since this is such a high-impact bug affecting so many users it really should be fixed in the LTS versions.
