Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution has previously fully supported network-manager reported network states. (IE It would go off-line when the network was disconnected and go back online when the network was connected.) Now, while it still goes offline, it never comes back online - instead a user must manually tell it to go back into online mode.

My current versions of things are,

ii evolution 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 groupware suite with mail client and organiz
ii evolution-common 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 architecture independent files for Evolution
ii evolution-data-server 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 evolution database backend server

ii evolution-exchange 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 Exchange plugin for the Evolution groupware
ii evolution-plugins 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 standard plugins for Evolution
ii evolution-webcal 2.21.92-0ubuntu1 webcal: URL handler for GNOME and Evolution

I can confirm this in the latest evolution package (13-Mar-2008). Unplugged Ethernet cable, saw evolution go offline, plugged cable back in and waited a few minutes. Network came back but evolution never did.

Hi,

The fix above, which seems to be the same one as in the
gnome bug report is said to break starting in offline
mode with --offline.

Would we prefer to break --offline or not fix this bug report
if a combined fix is not forthcoming before release?

Thanks,

James

Hi,

Here is the fix that I sent upstream in the form of a debdiff.
I've tested it here, and if I knock myself off the network I get
taken offline, and then it reconnects when the network
comes back up, which didn't happen before. --offline still works
as well in my tests.

I haven't had a reaction either way from upstream yet.

Thanks,

James

This bug was fixed in the package evolution - 2.22.1-0ubuntu3

connection is available evolution will go back in to online mode.

I'm reopening this because I have evolution 2.22.2-0ubuntu2 in Ubuntu Hardy and evolution still often stays offline after the network has reconnected. This seems particularly easy to reproduce when returning from suspension or hibernation.

closing, the issue described there has been fixed, could you open a new bug and describe how to trigger if it you still have a similar bug?
