Bug Description

Binary package hint: scim-m17n

After running
$ sudo aptitude install scim-m17n
rebooting and logging back in, scim is not activated with <ctrl>-<space> any longer. The SCIM setup icon in the top panel is still available, but no complex character support seems to be available.

The very first scim process started in a session seems to die:

The first process is a zombie on all systems, independent if they work or not.

The problem seems to be in scim-bridge, setting scim to use scim-immodule with
$ im_module -s scim-immodule
does work.

The correct command is:
$ im-switch -s scim-bridge

It's not clear what im-switch setting the bug reporter was using when this bug exists (It seems to me the correct command should be "im-switch -s scim-immodule", not "... scim-bridge"), but I suspect this is the same bug as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=431294.

When removing ispell.mim from /usr/share/m17n scim will work again. I suggest targeting the bug also vs scim-m17n and updating this packages by removing ispell.mim.

Ming, the zombie process is not related with this bug, I was on a wrong track then.

apparently a rebuild against the latest libraries is necessary to fix this bug.

We're at this version already - should this be 1.3.1-1ubuntu2 instead?

m17n-db (1.3.1-1ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * added patch to fix the buggy backspace in vi-telex (Thanks to Jean
    Christophe André)
  * added patch to fix the 'aff' entry in vi-telex (LP: #103328)
  * Changed the Maintainer field

Nevermind...

still as a minor nitpick: for a rebuild it should only be 1.3.1-1.1build1 instead of 1.3.1-1.1ubuntu1. That way we can just sync the next upload to Debian.
